Hello!
I wanted to cover a new topic after my post about 24 publications that are paying freelancers for love & relationships writing. I also wrote about 25 publications paying for freelance travel writers, and both of these posts still contain lots of great opportunities if you write in or around those genres.
Remember: this is a mix of publications in North America, Australia and the United Kingdom. For freelancers, it doesn’t generally matter where you are pitching unless you have a strong link to a particular place. Editors are used to receiving freelance pitches from everywhere in the world!

SAVEUR aim to broaden readers’ perspectives on food through rigorous, lively, and culturally sensitive journalism. Full pitch guidelines can be found here with lots of detail for what they look for. Pay is around $0.33 per word.
Modern Farmer is focused on three pillars of the food system: food equity, conscious consumption, and sustainable farming in North America. “Within those pillars, we are looking for human-centered stories that move beyond simply informing our community.” They pay writers based on story format and complexity, starting at a base rate of USD $350. Bon Appétit is a monthly American food and entertaining magazine, that typically contains recipes, entertaining ideas, restaurant recommendations, and wine reviews. Their rates begin at $250 for stories in the 400-word range and go up from there as determined by word count, experience, and the complexity and/or amount of reporting in the piece. Civil Eats is a daily news source for critical thought about the American food system. “We publish stories that shift the conversation around sustainable agriculture in an effort to build economically and socially just communities.” Pay is around $0.33 per word. Pitch guidelines here.
