🆕 Pitch Calls
PHOTO ESSAYS: The NBC News Photo and Art Department is accepting pitches for unpublished narrative photo essays or portrait series that chronicle everyday Americans in todays economy: how are they making ends meet or spending money in new ways? Accepted pitches will receive a project fee between $1200-2400.
PITCHING: Pitch Fail Club wants to make space for two short original first person essays on what your first year of pitching was like. It can be recent, or in the past, and from anywhere in the world. They are looking for up to 600 words and pay 10p/word. Deadline is Sunday 3rd May 2026.
REVOLUTION: The theme for the Summer 2026 issue of Oregon Humanities magazine is “Revolution.” They’re looking for stories about radical or wide-reaching change in political, cultural, and natural systems. All contributors are paid between $750 and $1,500, depending on the length and complexity of the piece. Deadline is April 30th.
AGRICULTURE: Offrange, a publication by Ambrook Research, is actively seeking pitches from freelance writers focused on agriculture, fishing, public lands, and natural resources. Pays $0.50-$1/word.
PODCASTING: Good Tape has opened their pitch portal for The Chemistry Issue. They’re looking for wide-ranging musings on chemistry in podcasting — stick to the theme or subvert it. Rates range from $175 to $1,050 for digital and $250 to $1,500 for print. Deadline is May 15th.
SAN FRANCISCO NATURE: Bay Nature is always looking for writers. They want: new environmental science to explain, species to understand, important conservation issues to tackle, new lands, trails, and activities to explore, and interesting people working with nature to feature. Pay has been as high as $0.80/word, though will need negotiating with editors.
FEMALE AMBITION: A speculative fiction anthology is seeking stories about female ambition, especially in imagined worlds where ambition is treated differently or pushed further than in real life. They want bold, character-driven pieces that explore drive, success, sacrifice, and the tension between societal expectations and personal desire. Pays $0.08 or £0.06/word. Deadline May 3rd.
SHOPPING: Business Insider is looking for frequent Costco, Trader Joe’s, and Aldi shoppers to write about their favorite things to buy at the store. Pay starts at $230.
TECHNOLOGY: Logic(s) is a queer Black and Asian magazine devoted to deepening the discourse around technology. They accept reported articles, features, essays, and profiles, paying $1,200–$4,000 per piece. They will soon be accepting pitches for Logic(s) Issue 20.
CREATIVE NONFIC: The Margins is open for creative nonfiction submissions, with a particular interest in lyric essays and pieces that incorporate historical and/or cultural analysis. They’re also interested in essays that play with genre, such as zuihitsu and flash essays. Pays $150-$450.
POWER IN JOURNALISM: The Objective is a nonprofit newsroom examining systems of power and inequity in journalism: how newsrooms treat their employees, how journalists interact with their community, and what new forms of journalism can look like. They are always looking for freelance pitches. Pays $0.50/word.
LITERARY CULTURE: Wasafiri is open for creative submissions in fiction and non-fiction until May 1st. They seek innovative creative writing that in form, focus, or theme aims to expand the boundaries of global literary culture. They pay £50-£150, depending on the format.
