Hello, and welcome to the Freelance Writing Network’s latest monthly round-up of creative opportunities!

For the rest of March and beyond, I’ve put together a collection of fantastic opportunities for you. These include internships, bursaries, awards, fiction and poetry submissions, writing retreats, webinars, prizes and all sorts.

Loads of great stuff to check out this month!

Deadlines in February…

  • Faber Academy has a range of scholarships available in February & beyond for writers including in fiction, poetry and novel writing. Check out all the details here.

  • The Hippocrates Prize for Poetry and Medicine is an annual international award for an unpublished poem on a medical subject. Poems must be no more than 50 lines in length and not have previously been published in any form. They must be by a living poet, written in English and should not be translations of another writer’s work. Closes February 14th.

  • The Kathryn A. Morton Prize in Poetry is awarded annually to one full-length manuscript of poetry. The prize includes $2,000, publication of the work, a standard royalty contract, and an introduction written by the guest judge. Open to anyone writing in English. Closes February 15th.

  • The American Prospect has two fellowships available. “One position is for our John Lewis Fellowship, which is designed for journalists from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds; the second is our standard Writing Fellowship. Both positions will begin in Spring 2025.” Closes February 15th.

  • CantoMundo 2025 is open to Latinx poets aged 18+ and will be hosted by the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona in June. CantoMundo is dedicated to serving Latinx poets and poetry across regional, aesthetic, ethnic, racial (e.g. Afro-Latinx/Caribbean/Indigenous) linguistic, generational, and LGBTQIA+ spectrums. Closes February 15th.

  • The American Playwriting Foundation is accepting applications for the 2025 Relentless Musical Award, in honor of Adam Schlesinger, The creators of the winning submission will receive $65,000, the largest prize in American theater presented in recognition of an unproduced musical. Closes February 15th.
