Hello!

Welcome as always to the weekly newsletter.

There are a whopping 52 opportunities to check out this week, with tons of great pitch calls plus freelance and remote writing roles across the globe!

I’ve also got a new paid only post coming (hopefully) on Thursday. Make sure you check out the two from last week if you haven’t already: updated top tips for pitching to editors and how writers (thanks for all your thoughts!) generate ideas.

Are you looking for an editing service for your fiction? Do you want to get your work polished with the idea of getting published in future?

Check out George’s Editing Journeys, an editing service that helps to ensure that your novel or short story is polished, professional, and ready for publication - be that self-published or traditionally with an agent and published.

Check Out George's Editing Journeys!

Don’t forget that my new Substack, The Classical Book Club, is cracking on with our first novel. This month, suitably for Halloween, we’ll be reading Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. We’ll be discussing the novel on Substack during the first weekend of November, so there’s plenty of time still to get involved!

This month is totally free, and everyone who takes part will get a lifetime paid subscription for the future of the book club!

Calls to Pitch

  • Capital & Main reports on inequities related to class, race, immigration, gender, corporate accountability, climate change and energy, education and health, both in California and nationally. They want you to pitch your features and stories to them.

  • Walden is looking for pitches for Dirt on: music & tech that is evergreen with a timely hook/that one idea you’re obsessed with but have been repeatedly told is “too niche”. Standard rates start at $0.50/word, negotiable for reported pieces. Q&As are paid out at $0.30/word.

  • Christine is back at NatGeo as digital animals editor. “Send me your compelling + unique ideas, particularly about orca shenanigans, invasive species impacts, mysterious fish diseases, and more!” NatGeo have paid $1/word to freelancers in the past.
