Calls to Pitch

  • Chris Hatler at Men’s Journal is looking for more pitches about whisky. $250 flat rate for 600-800 words. Will prioritize snappy headlines and unique opinions.

  • Briony at Louder is on the hunt for new writers. “I am particularly interested in hearing from *new* and aspiring writers who may still be developing their voice, from backgrounds typically underrepresented by the alternative music press.” Generally pays around £0.10/word.

  • The Objective is an American publication that examine systems of power and inequity in journalism. They are open to freelance pitches, particularly related to the recent election. Guide here. $0.50/word.

  • Are you someone with a story to tell? Did you go through a harrowing divorce? A friend break-up that broke your heart? Or maybe you have a parenting story you want to share? “I am now open and taking pitches of all kinds for personal essays. Around 500-1,000 words are preferred but not required. This is paid. And you will be working directly with me. If you have an essay you'd like to submit send it over to: essay-pitch@buzzfeed.com.” Exact rates not shared.

  • Zoë Grünewald at The Lead is looking to commission some punchy features. “We want investigations and features covering social injustice, inequality, policy horror stories, and issues facing real people all across the country today.” Pays £200-£400.
