Calls to Pitch
It’s time to pitch stories and photos for the fourth print issue of Mildew: The Secondhand Fashion Magazine! They are seeking ideas that invite readers to think about old clothes in new ways, and go beyond “why thrifting is more sustainable/ethical/fun/personal than fast fashion.”
Maybelle is always on the lookout for UK lifestyle pitches across relationships, money, health and wellness. You can read a thread of the types of articles they are looking for here.
Mirror Lamp Press invites pitches from writers for Issue 11, a deep dive into all things food-related. We welcome responses in the form of creative nonfiction, essays, memoir, and reportage that examine the personal, political, or cultural aspects of food. Additionally, we are open to recipes, reflections on specific dishes, and book, restaurant, TV, or Film reviews. Selected writers will receive €500 to develop their pitch into a piece of 1,500–2,000 words.
Unbias the News is seeking pitches about climate and migration, worldwide and in Europe (respectively). Check out the call and submit a pitch by Feb. 9th. They pay 500 Euros per story and share copyright with authors.
Vittles Cooking has recently shared their new call for writers. There are no restrictions on what you can pitch – beyond the need to be related to home cooking in one way or another - and you can find a full list of details in the attached link. Pays £150-£500 (or around 40p a word).
Kernel is the flagship print magazine of Reboot, a publication and community reimagining techno-optimism for a better collective future. They are looking for pitches for their next issue, ‘RULES’. Full pitch guideline found here. Rates from $200-$350 depending on scope of the work.
Stephanie is recirculating Business Insider’s grocery-diary pitch form for anyone who may be interested. “Looking for Costco, Trader Joe's, and Aldi shoppers. Bonus points if you follow the Mediterranean diet, a high-protein diet, love to meal prep, or have an executive Costco membership!” Pays $175.
Did you go on a dream vacation only to leave disappointed? Spend a ton on an underwhelming cruise? Regret moving states or countries? Stephanie is also looking for pitches for short, 500-600 word essays! Rates start at $200.
Rest of World has recently shared an updated pitch guide for freelancers. In 2025 they are particularly interested in pitches on: EV revolution, China outside China, tech giants and innovation, though other relevant and timely pitches are welcomed. Full details in the above link. Pay has been around $750 for 1200 words in the past.
Late Checkout is your cheat sheet for food, drink, and travel lovers. Think curated city guides, buzzy restaurant and hotel openings, shoppable packing lists, and culture-packed tidbits—all with a fun, youthful voice and a hint of Gen Z energy. They’re looking for pitches. Details in the link, $200 for 200 words.
African Women in Media is looking for investigative, multimedia, & solution-driven stories on migration’s role in Africa’s growth and development. Submit up to 2 pitches, a cover letter, and your CV/portfolio to assistant@africanwomeninmedia.com. Deadline: January 24. Unclear on rates, have asked.
Motley Bloom is open to pitches! “We're looking for voicey pieces that center lived experience with neurodivergence. We approach ND from a living and lifestyle lens, rather than a health and science one, and focus on articles and stories that help our readers live out loud and unmasked.” Rates start at $300 for short articles, $500 for longer researched and/or first-person pieces.
Grindr (yes, that one!) is looking for bold, personal takes + stories that go beyond the usual “app success” or “awkward date” tropes. They also want think pieces on culture, relationships, and sex that push the conversation forward. No rates shared at present.
NACLA is currently accepting proposals for their Fall 2025 issue on Green Capitalism in the lead-up to COP30 in Belém, Brazil in November. Send your pitches by February 3, 2025. Loads of helpful guidelines here. Pays $100-$200 depending on one’s employment situation.
Henry is now the Senior Editor for UploadVR. “Freelance writers looking to pitch reviews, previews and more, you can get in touch via email or DMs. PR/devs/publishers looking to share any VR gaming news, my email is hstockdale [at] uploadvr [dot] com. Smaller impressions pieces we pay $150, Reviews $240. Features vary depending on scope but $175 minimum.”
Walter Marsh has been appointed to edit InReview, the digital platform dedicated to independent arts and culture coverage in South Australia. He is looking for your pitches. No rates shared, have asked.

Dread Central is seeking pitches from Black genre fans as part of their annual Black History Month programming! They’re accepting pitches now through Friday, January 24, 2025. Pays $100 an article.
