Here’s hoping for a return to the normal number of new pitching opportunities in the coming weeks.

Esses, a magazine about the people, culture, and lifestyle of Grand Prix racing, is looking for pitches. Range of payment is usually between $0.50-$1.50/word. Lots of details in this thread.
Maisonneuve Magazine is an award-winning quarterly of arts, opinion & ideas. They are looking for pitches for their summer issue. Please send all pitches to nour[at]maisonneuve[dot]org by Wednesday, March 5th (so closing soon!). A thread of what they are looking for can be found here.
For Business Insider, Conz is looking for people who own/owned Cybertrucks or Teslas to write essays about their experience with the cars. Good, bad, funny, here for it. Rates presumably $230 as usual.
The Xylom love taking pitches from early-career, immigrant, and nontraditional science writers. The Xylom is currently offering every storyteller $200 per language published. Full submission guidelines here.

Katie has shared a call for pitches: “We're looking at launching a destination-focused newsletter at point.me, and I'm looking for pitches from writers with deep expertise in a particular city or region(live in/visit often).” Payment $250-ish. Details in this thread.
The 51st is looking for pitches with clear and concise arguments with obvious local ties, voice-driven writing, and topics that speak to either a timely news even or culturally relevant question (or, engage with existing conversations in a new way.) Pay ranges depending on the work, all details found on this page.
Frank is looking for first-person essays about the intersection between retail and relationships/parenting. What stores do you love? What is your family's grocery list like at Trader Joe's/Costco? Why do you love Target, Amazon, Kohls? Pay will be about $230 as this is for Business Insider.
Jared is launching a movie column at Military.com tentatively titled 'Theater of War.' “I am looking for compelling analyses of war movies new and old, whether it's of a specific scene or a broader theme. Send pitches to jared.keller [at] monster dot com.” Pays $400.
Evie is always on the lookout for lifestyle SEO-led pitches from freelance writers for Living360, email evelyn.richards@aplmedia.co.uk with pitches. No rates shared but previous examples of commissioned work can be found in this thread.

ProPublica is an independent, nonprofit newsroom that produces investigative journalism in the public interest. “While the vast majority of ProPublica’s work comes from our staff, we occasionally consider supporting ambitious accountability stories or projects from independent journalists whose ideas align with the mission of our organization.” Full details found here.
Hearing Things is an independent, worker-owned publication covering music and the culture around it. “We’re looking for features, essays, reporting, profiles, and reviews. If you’re pitching a review, think of it as a thoroughly argued piece of criticism or an essay; we are more likely to assign a pitch with an unusual angle than one that’s only about whether something is good or bad. We are unlikely to accept pitches for artist Q&As.” $350-$1000, details here.
Vegas411 needs writers. “We’re the go-to source for all things Las Vegas, covering everything from best bars to Sin City’s wildest tales. We also publish show reviews, interviews with Vegas notables, spicy commentary, etc.” £100 per article, $150 per interview or review.
The Flytrap is a media collective focused on feminist cultural criticism that responds to and engages with cultural phenomena, rejecting algorithmic editorial strategies. We are looking for unflinching, occasionally provocative, but always engaging and values-driven work. They will reopen for pitches in the second quarter of 2025—so keep in mind for future reference.
Now in its 16th year, the C New Critics Award is designed to help identify, develop, and promote the work of emerging art critics, and to encourage creative discourse on current art practices. Writers are invited to submit an 800-1,000 word review of a recent exhibition, performance, publication, or moving image work, by May 30, 2025. The winner will receive $750, editorial support to prepare their article for publication in a future issue of C Magazine, and a two-year subscription. All participants will receive a one-year subscription.

Kitchen Work Issue #10 will be devoted to stories about Cities! “Please send us writing about markets, cafes, urban picnics, tiny kitchens, and big dinner tables in your favorite city.” Pays $0.20/word. The deadline to submit for kitchen work Issue #10 ‘Cities’ is March 15th.
For the upcoming Spark Magazine series, National Center for Institutional Diversity invites scholars to provide critical analysis and insights about community resilience in the face of environmental changes. Submit a pitch by March 15th.
Fortunately Magazine has shared a call for pitches: “Partnerships, parleys, polycules—In Issue 02, we explore forms of communal exchange and transfers for unprecedented times and uncertain futures. This issue probes how institutions influence our daily transactions, which range from the subtle to the explicit: a look across the room, a heated dialogue between conspirators, or the frenzy of the market. FAIR considers ways for ideas, commodities, and resources to flow from production to consumption in systems that prioritize collective well-being over accumulation through pragmatic or even deviant means." $300+, deadline March 17th.

Curationist seek proposals to publish new writing on their platform.
”Curationist’s editorial features critically investigate and contextualize the Works in open access archives. Writers build essays from the histories, narratives, and art of global cultures across time.” The ideal guest writer will have an interest in the history and contemporary context of cultural objects and materials. Pays $1500 with a deadline of March 30th.The Winter 2025-26 issue of The Stinging Fly, due to publish in November 2025, will have a special focus on the climate crisis. “We now invite pitches for pieces of creative non-fiction engaging with this topic. Your pitch, which should be submitted through this form, should clearly outline what you wish to write about, how you intend to develop it, and what will make your essay effective, unique or compelling.” Pitches will be accepted until March 31st.
Are you estranged from family? Do you have a story to tell about it? Jenny Bartoy, editor of the anthology NO CONTACT, forthcoming from Catapult (April 2026), is seeking personal essays and flash nonfiction around this topic. Full guidelines here. All contributors will be paid a fee (minimum $50 flash nonfiction / $100 essay). Deadline April 1st.
Call for pitches: prospective Education About Asia authors are invited to submit a 250-word abstract for feature articles, teaching resource essays or multimedia content. Pitches received by May 1, 2025 will be considered for the spring 2026 issue.
Trails Magazine is looking for pitches for Issue 11. The themes are ‘Connection’. Ryan, an editor at Trails, has shared lots of useful pitch information here. Pays $0.50/word minimum. Deadline is some time in May for Issue 11.
