Pitch Calls
Ethan has shared a regular callout for pitches for the Globe and Mail's business opinion section (Canada). Pitch at elou@globeandmail.com. For reference, these are the pieces that have run in Ethan’s section. A different editor at this publication had rates that were $300-$400 per piece, so presumably this is similar.
Contingent is a magazine about history and the process of doing history. “We prioritize pitches from people who have completed postgraduate work in history (or a history-adjacent field) and are working outside the tenure-track professoriate.” They are currently looking for MAILBAG columns, roughly 400 to 500 words. Is there a question you’re often asked about the work of doing history? Do you wish there were a short, accessible answer to that question you could just point them to? The base pay is $150.
Apartment Therapy is open to freelance pitches. Their goal is to help our readers create homes that reflect not just their style, but who they truly are. As part of that mission, they’re always looking to work with new writers who have fresh ideas and perspectives that help our readers have a happier, more beautiful home. Has paid around $150 for work in the past.
Jacob at Dispatch is open to pitches. “Dispatch is a modern magazine fuelled by frontier spirit. We publish deeply reported features and curious interviews from across the world.” Pays £400.
The Hearth Magazine is looking for pitches. The Hearth Magazine features articles, games, and supplemental material for tabletop roleplaying games that are not Dungeons & Dragons, with a particular focus on games from independent and small press creators and publishers. Pays $0.2/word CAD.
