The Freelance Writing Network is evolving: Everything you need to know
New formats, better timing & more ways to support freelance writers.
As the Freelance Writing Network continues to grow, I'm making a few updates to improve your experience and ensure its long-term sustainability.
These changes come after extensive feedback on the recent survey, helpful comments and emails I have received from many of you in recent months, and the realities of running what is becoming a larger workload with every passing month.
To ensure the quality of this newsletter remains high, and to keep bringing you the very best opportunities, insights, and interviews, the Freelance Writing Network is evolving.
🗓️ Opportunities: Now twice a week
Starting soon, paid subscribers will receive two full editions every week, on Mondays and Thursdays. This will replace the previous Tuesday newsletter and Friday’s extra opportunities in the Substack chat.
This change means fresher, more timely opportunities. Many listings shared on social media are highly competitive within the first 24–48 hours. Paid subscribers will now see many more of these before they go viral.
🆓 Free subscribers receive a curated preview
Instead of the full newsletter arriving 24 hours later, free subscribers will now receive a smaller, curated selection of opportunities every Thursday and occasionally on other days. This is to help keep the value strong for paid subscribers while still offering tons of useful pitches and leads for those on the free list.
🛠️ Free trials are on pause… For now!
Due to ongoing technical issues and the time involved in managing them, I’ve decided to pause free trials for the foreseeable future. The priority of this newsletter is to deliver a consistent, quality experience to all subscribers—and that means streamlining where I can.
🖊️ More opportunities, interviews and insights
One or two other days each week will be reserved for additional content, including.
Q&As with writers, editors and creators
Themed or high-paying opportunity lists
Grow Your Newsletter posts
Other insights into making and growing a successful freelance career
Some of these will become free to read, and the Freelance Writing Network will soon be spotlighting even more writers, editors and creators across the community.
👋 I’ll soon be hiring help
This is not a sentence I ever thought I would write! This newsletter has grown far beyond what I initially imagined, and soon I will be expanding the Freelance Writing Network team for the first time to keep on top of everything. Stay tuned on that one, because there will soon be a freelance opportunity for this very newsletter!
As the FWN grows, so does the time commitment involved in sourcing, vetting, and delivering great opportunities. These changes are designed to make the work more sustainable and improve the overall experience for you as a subscriber.
Thanks so much for being here and helping this community grow. If you have questions or thoughts, you can reply to this via email or send me a message on Substack.
