Hello, and welcome to the FWNN’s latest monthly round-up!

This month I’ve put together a collection of 45 fantastic opportunities. This includes bursaries, awards, short story and poetry submissions, writing retreats, webinars, prizes and all sorts.

Don’t forget there’s no normal newsletter this week while I’m on holiday. Instead, I’ll be updating the Early Bird Opportunities throughout the week for paid subscribers only. Make sure you check it out, I’ve shared over 20 opportunities this week already!

I’ll share a similar number of opportunities as the weekly newsletter, you’ll just need to check on the Substack chat to see them all.

There’s a huge range of content for you to explore. As writers it’s important to remember that we work in a multitude of different ways: we’re journalists, authors, teachers, copywriters, content creators, bloggers, self-publishing, querying agents, submitting to lit mags. Not one writer I know earns or publishes in one way.

There’s such a wide range of opportunities that every single subscriber to the Freelance Writing Network can make use of something here!

Deadlines Coming Up…

  • MacDowell encourages fellowship applications from artists of all backgrounds and all countries in the following disciplines: architecture, film/video arts, interdisciplinary arts, literature, music composition, theatre, and visual arts. Closest September 10th.

  • The Science Museum Group is inviting poets to submit a piece based on objects in their collection. Anyone and everyone is welcome to submit a poem. Deadline is September 15th.

  • Fractured Lit’s Elsewhere Prize is open for submissions. “For this contest, we want writers to show us the forgotten, the hidden, the otherworldly. We want your stories to take us on journeys and adventures in the worlds only you can create; whether you make the familiar strange or the strange familiar, we know you will take us elsewhere. Be our tour guide through reality and beyond.” Deadline is September 15th.

  • Ink Sweat and Tears is currently open for submissions on the theme of ‘(re)place’ and will be accepting poetry, prose, word & image, filmpoems and reviews on this theme until September 15th.

  • The Queen’s English Society is delighted to announce their next poetry-writing competition is to be judged by resident poet, Dorothy Pope. The competition is open to all and entry is free with the winner awarded £100. Deadline September 15th.
